Yes, if out of a similar car with small bearing ends. For a 68 (67-70 actually), a 54" housing with small ends will accept 8" axles and bearings from the same years. Stock flange-to-flange on those cars should be 54 1/4" +/- 1/8" or so. The Mustang here has a Currie 9" housing with small bearing ends and we run 28 spline axles from the old 8".The 8.8-inch axle can be found on many different vehicles, with the Mustang being the most common. It can also be found on any of the smaller trucks with the 4.0-liter V-6 engine, such as the Explorer, Mountaineer, Ranger, and even the Aerostar.
